You must enter the settings for each of the products you want to be surveyed, so that CheckUpdates can detect any change in the version. Settings are modified in the editor accessed via the "+" button, or a double-click on a product in the main window.

Name of the product:
It is the name displayed in the list.
Nota: In order to survey an installed application, you must have the same name as the application.

Tips: Selecting the installed application in the list on the right before creting a new product will copy its name in this field.

URL of the product page:
This is the place where you enter the address of the place where to search for the version.

Use the popup menu to easily find this page. CheckUpdates uses various search engines to find the page(s) for the product named in the first field.

String to search:
Enter here the string immediately preceding the version number. Depending of the page you selected, it can be the name of the product, or the "Version:" string. You can copy paste this string directly from the web page you have choosen.

Test Button:
Once your settings done, click the bottom left button to check that the web page and the string are correct, and the version found.
The contents of the page is displayed in the last field. You can use it to detect any error preventing to detect the version, and copy-paste the string preceding the version for the search field.

Strategy For Product Creation

First, you must determine a web page where the latest version of the product is (and will be) located. This can be one of the pages of the editor's web site, a referencing web site, etc.
The "Help me..." popup menu can do searches to help you finding a correct page.
IMPORTANT: Be sure that this page is updated for each new version of the product.

Once the page found, copy the string located just before the version number, and paste it in the field "String preceding...".
You can search a version within a string, using the %V joker. For example, if the version is displayed as "Version 2.5.4 for Mac Intel", the string to search can be set as "Version %V for Mac Intel".

Once the settings done, click the Test button to check that the version is correctly detected.
